Custom software & iOS apps

Web platforms, customer portals, SaaS products, native iOS apps and the business software in between. Engineered, tested and handed over documented.

In a machine workshop, a technician checks a part on his bench with a phone in his other hand, tools hanging on the pegboard behind him.

What we build

Software for the part no tool covers.

Sometimes the process is the product, or no platform fits without bending the business around it. Then we write the software, and test and document it like everything else.

  1. Web platforms and customer portals

A public site, a customer portal and an admin area on one codebase, sharing one set of data. Sign-in, roles, forms and the business rules behind them, built for how your customers and team actually use them.

  2. SaaS products

From a first version that tests the idea to a product running in production, with accounts, admin tools and monitoring in place. Built to keep changing after launch.

  3. Business software around your systems of record

Custom modules and tools around the platforms you already run, such as Odoo, so the system fits the business instead of the business fitting the system.

  4. Native iOS apps

Apps written in Swift and SwiftUI for iPhone and iPad, working from the same back end and data as the rest of your systems.

How it runs

Built to be run, not just launched.

The first release is the start. So the software ships with logs, automated deploys, a way to roll back and documentation for whoever changes it next.

  • Monitoring

Errors, slow pages and failed background jobs are logged and reported, so a problem shows up in the log before it shows up in a customer’s inbox.

Sample log line:RunningRelease 1.8 · rolling out · health checks passing

  • Retries

Background jobs, emails and calls to other services try again safely, without sending twice or charging twice. A release that fails its checks rolls back to the last good version.

Sample log line:RetryingInvoice email failed · attempt 2 of 3

  • Human checkpoints

Admin actions that matter, like a refund, a role change or a bulk update, can ask for a second person’s OK. The app records who approved what.

Sample log line:Needs your OKBulk update · 214 records · waiting for Rosa

  • Handover

The code lives in your repository, deploys from your accounts and comes with documentation for running, changing and extending it. It is written so another engineer can pick it up.

Sample log line:DoneRepository and deploys moved to your organization

In our work

Where it shows up in our work.

  • Heart Capital Inc.Client work

One Next.js platform, five front doors

One codebase serves the firm’s public site, a job board with an eight-step application, an employer portal with invoices, training courses and white-label interview links. Three custom Odoo 18 modules with unit tests sit behind it, in English and Spanish.

About iOS

Native iOS is a capability, not a portfolio. We build in Swift and SwiftUI, and there is no shipped PlugWheel iOS app to show here yet.

Questions

Asked about this kind of work.

All questions

  • Who owns what you build?

You do, once the work is paid for. Systems run on your accounts, and the code, workflows and documentation are handed over when the work is done. A product or venture partnership may set different terms in its signed agreement.

  • What happens on the first call?

Thirty minutes on Google Meet. You walk us through the work that slows the business down, and we ask how it happens today, where it sticks and what it touches. If we can help, we say how we would approach it. If we can’t, we say that too.

  • Do you work with businesses outside the US?

Yes. PlugWheel LLC is registered in Wyoming and works remotely. Our client work includes a recruitment platform for a firm serving Guyana, Trinidad and Suriname.
